The History of Gomex Institute of Technology

Gomex Technologies Limited, a Jamaican Company duly registered under the Laws of Jamaica under the Companies Act of 2004, was founded in March 2009 to respond to the need for trained professionals in information security and computer forensics in the Caribbean. To fully realize this objective Gomex signed partnership agreements with top forensics hardware and software companies international. Gomex signed reseller agreements with Guidance Software Inc, AccessData, Logicube, Cellebrite and other top forensics brands. Gomex has since consulted with law enforcement in Jamaica, Curacao, Grenada, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Cayman Islands. In 2009, Gomex became the first and currently the only Authorized Training Partner (ATP) for Guidance Software makers of the Award Winning EnCase Computer Investigative Software. In 2001, Gomex was presented with a plaque form Guidance Software as the Rising star of 2011 for outstanding performance as a young training entity. In 2011, Gomex trained and certified to international standards 15 officers of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. These officers acquired the skills set necessary to investigate computers and digital devices for evidence, using internationally accepted best practices and to present the evidence in a court of law.

In July 2011, Gomex found it necessary to separate the training business form the consulting business as a way of better organizing products and services. Gomex Security Academy (GSA) was established to have a focused objective of provide professional training and certification to Jamaica and the Caribbean. To execute the mandate GSA signed an agreement with CompTIA, the world's most popular and vendor neutral certification and global information technology industry membership organization. GSA then became a CompTIA Authorized Training partner offering a wide array of training programs for entry level information technology specialists. GSA then signed an agreement with the EC-Council international to become one of the two EC-Council Authorized Training Partner (ATP) in Jamaica to conduct training programmes in Ethical Hacking and other computer security related programs.

In September 2012, Gomex became a Pearson VUE Authorized Testing Centre to offer proctored exams for international certification bodies such as Cisco, Novell, CompTIA and many others. Within the first year of operation, Gomex proctored more than 120 Certifications exams to Jamaicans. Kryterion then approached Gomex to proctor their High-Stakes Online Secure testing service offering examinations in Communications and other college level proctored exams.

In 2013, with the demand for higher education, Gomex Security Academy (GSA) was renamed as Gomex Institute of Technology (GIT or Gomex Tech). This name change was needed to facilitate the comprehensive training programs and academic training that Gomex is now being positioning to take on. Gomex will continue to establish partnership with international institutions to provide first class training programs to Jamaican and the Caribbean to a wider extent.

The Gomex Difference
