Overview
A recent study of Crime in the Caribbean by the United Nations Development Programme revealed that the region has one of the highest homicide rates in the world and that crime has become an impediment to economic development. The Caribbean Human Development Report 2012 notes that 8.5 per cent of the global population resides in Latin America and the Caribbean and yet 27 percent of the world murders take place in the region. Modern policing requires highly educated and trained cadres capable of developing and implementing advanced crime reduction strategies. The Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice program will create a pool of graduates that will enhance the criminal justice capabilities of the security forces and correctional services.
